  1. ‘A Spear For Freedom’ WW2 propaganda booklet about colonial African soldiers.
Unusual original b/w photo illustrated 48 page HMSO publication telling the tale of how Kisarishu, a young man from Tanganyika joins the Military Labour Service to do his bit for His Majesty King George VI and the British Empire during WW2. The booklet follows his progress from his tribal village through recruitment, training, and posting to North Africa.
Needless to say, the language and tone of the booklet is very much that of paternal imperialism, and this booklet would be of particular interest to students of colonial era African history.
